Unit-VI win KMBM inter-school football title

Unit-VI Government Boys High School won the 23rd Kalinga Marine Bibekananda Memorial Bhubaneswar Inter-School Football Tournament, defeating Sai International School 1-0 in the violence-marred final, which was abandoned one minute into the second half at Unit-VI High School ground here today.

Referee stopped play following clash between students and supporters of both the teams. Earlier Rakesh Behera scored the all-important goal in the 30th minute. He was adjudged player of the final match. Information and Public Relation Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo handed over the trophy in the presence of local MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty at the closing function.

Former Odisha Ranji team captain Madan Mohanty Mohanty, eminent football coach Janardan Jena, AIFF referee instructor Sushant Mohanty, former Ranji cricketer Maina Mishra and sports promoter Asimananda Mohanty were felicitated on the occasion by host Unit-VI Athletic Association, which was celebrating its silver jubilee this year.

Individual prizes were bagged by Biswajeet Rout (best goalkeeper, Unit-VI), S Samantaray (best defender, Sai International), Barun Pradhan (best mid-fielder, Unit-VI), Soumya Rout (best forward, DPS Kalinga) and Rajat Rout (man of the tournament, Unit-VI).

Earlie in the semifinals, Sai International thrashed Delhi Public School (Kalinga) 3-1, while Unit-VI edged out Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences 1-0.
